In 2017, Albina, founder & president emerita of FXB International, got the idea to develop a pilot program in Gaza in order to spread the concept, culture, and principles of non-violence among the Palestinian society and Gaza’s youth, the greatest agents of change to introduce a positive, sustainable and lasting change in the society.
Gaza’s youth, agents of change
It’s important to keep in mind that the youngest generations, who account for nearly 65% of Gaza’s population, never had the opportunity to take part in elections. This is the reason why it’s critical to create and promote a culture of tolerance and non-violence. Young Palestinians will thus have all the tools to solve their differences in a peaceful way.
Albina du Boisrouvray found in Omar Shaban, Pal-Think for Strategic Studies’ Director, a reliable partner who could develop and set up with FXB the Forum of Non-Violence. At the end of 2017, FXB and Palthink launched the project in order to strengthen and spread a culture of non-violence among Gaza’s youth.
Launch of the Forum for non-violence in Gaza
The project trains local community educators and civil society organizations and provides them with the necessary tools and concepts to solve social and political differences in a non-violent and peaceful way. The project also spreads the values and principles of non-violence within the Palestinian society through publications and media outlets.
The results are very encouraging : 10,000 people have been reached, various local organisations received a training, and many young local peace-ambassadors were born.
Now, FXB and Pal-Think fully intend to extend the project to the West Bank of Jordan. More broadly, the aim for the next few years is to deploy this program in other countries in the region.
